Requirements

What We're Looking For

We work with skilled, reliable professionals who take pride in their craft. Here's what you'll need to get started.

  • Minimum 2 years of professional drywall experience
  • Proficiency in drywall repair, patching, taping, and finishing
  • Own tools and reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • General liability insurance (or willingness to obtain)
  • W-9 tax form on file
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship
  • Professional demeanor — you'll be in customers' homes
  • Smartphone for receiving job notifications and uploading photos

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with ceiling repair and texturing

Frequently Asked Questions

You'll be handling drywall repair, installation, and finishing projects across Northern Virginia — from small patch jobs and crack repairs to full-room installations and water damage restoration. Jobs range from quick 2-hour repairs to multi-day projects, so there's variety in the work.
You set your own availability. When a job comes in that matches your skills and location, you'll receive a notification with the job details. Accept the jobs that work for your schedule — there's no minimum hours requirement. Most subcontractors work Monday through Saturday, but it's completely up to you.
HouseWorks handles all customer billing. You earn 50% of the total job price. Payment is issued within 7 business days of job completion and customer payment. You cover your own materials out of your share. You'll receive a 1099 at the end of the year for tax purposes.
Yes. As an independent subcontractor, you'll need your own reliable transportation and a standard set of drywall tools — taping knives, mud pan, sander, utility knife, drywall saw, drill, and basic hand tools. We provide specifications for any specialty materials needed on a per-job basis.
Our service area covers all of Northern Virginia including Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, and the independent cities of Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax City, Manassas, and Manassas Park. During onboarding, you'll set your travel radius from your home address so you only receive jobs within your preferred range.
Yes, a Certificate of Insurance (COI) with general liability coverage is required. If you don't currently have insurance, we'll point you toward affordable options during onboarding — many of our subs get coverage for under $100/month.
Yes. Because we work in customers' homes, all subcontractors must pass a background check. The check is handled through a third-party provider during the onboarding process. It's quick, typically completed within 24 hours.
Once your onboarding is complete — application, documents, background check — you can start receiving job notifications right away. The full process typically takes 3 to 5 business days, depending on how quickly you submit your documents and complete the background check.
